In the Frame; Self Portraiture for the Creative
Self portraiture is my HEART and soul and I truly think it is something that every person should attempt for multiple reasons.
1.) We need to love ourselves.
2.)  it teaches us how to be humble towards our clients
3.) it is an easy way to experiment with different processing, editing, or photographic techniques
4.) It is a great way to boost your social media platforms

I will discuss my technical process, the gear I use, how I set up, how I set focus, different techniques to try (slow shutter, double exposure etc). I'll show you how I use a creative/manual focus lens for self portraits, specifically the Lensbaby Sol 45.

I will also cover my growth and share some of my early work and what I learned
What I teach will be applicable whether you want to use it to take your own headshots, or whether you want an avenue for creativity
I will discuss troubleshooting and self confidence

Beautiful Backlighting and Natural Posing
One of my absolute favorite parts of the newborn session is when I pose them on their back in a perfectly curly position. Using backlighting for this pose creates such a beautiful, natural-looking portrait that is timeless and dreamy, and focuses on the baby and all of their features. While they're posed in this position, it's also a great time to incorporate macro photos which I will be discussing as well, in addition to how to guide them into natural posting. This pose and lighting can be tricky because it seems that the lighting is opposite of what we've always been taught. During this session, I will discuss backlighting, camera settings, equipment, and posing. I'm so excited about this and looking forward to meeting some of you!

With a large majority of professional photographers being part time, the flexible schedule and freedom of being a full-time entrepreneur can be appealing, but the inconsistent income prevents most people from taking that jump. Manipulating Light and Shadows -Sponsored by Lensbaby
Sponsored by Lensbaby

I absolutely love working with indoor light and experimenting with all kinds of light indoors. In this demonstration I'll be working with the participants in manipulating light, using shadows around us to give that extra dimension to your photos. We'll work with rim light, Rembrandt lighting, creative crops for unconventional portraits, exploring creative photography through various methods such as freelensing and shooting through objects.

Participants will learn how to embrace shooting in hard light, manipulate light indoors to create fine art dramatic portraiture, will learn how to look beyond traditional rules in imagery!

Most often I hear from folks that working with harsh light is the most challenging for them. Working with indoor light can be tricky and you can lack inspiration. With this breakout course, I am hoping participants will be inspired to shoot more creatively while letting go of perfectionism.

Outsourcing your editing… Alleviate your fears and let’s elevate your business
Fun fact, did you know that on average a full-time wedding photographer spends anywhere from 200-400 hours per year on just their editing?!  That’s crazy!  To put that into perspective that’s almost 1-2 months of workday hours solely spent on editing.  If you multiply this by 5 years in business, you are looking at 6-12 months of just editing work hours.  Such an eye opener, right?!  How many of you have wanted to outsource but don’t even know where to start and how it can work for you?  How many of you have tried but it just wasn't for you OR didn't have the best experience?  I want to help shed light on all of this and get you on the right path to running a better and more efficient business through outsourcing.

As an early pioneer of private 1-on-1 editing, I’ve built a business helping wedding photographers around the world take back their time by outsourcing their editing.  I work with photographers from all aspects of "big names such as Valorie Darling, Julie Paisley, Paige Marie (The Legal Paige), Jana Williams... to the lesser known names who are equally important to me and my editors.  We love all of our amazing clients!  What started as a one woman show has now turned into a team of 7 editors with 30+ years of experience in this field and over 60+ clients.  I have watched our client’s lives change for the better both personally and business wise.  I’ve seen the over worked and over stressed photographer do a total 180 because of outsourcing.  They now run their business the way the want to and can use their time to upscale and not burn out in the process.  I know how to alleviate their fears of letting go of that control and giving them hope and trust in the outsourcing process.

At the end of my class/course audience members will leave:

With the exact steps to prepare their business to hire an editor so that they can feel confident letting go of the task

How outsourcing will allow them to scale their business while still maintaining a personal life.

Why a private editor could be their key to the elevated and luxury client experience their clients desire.

A Non-Intimidating Introduction to Artificial Light
Ashley is a perfectionist when it comes to lighting, utilizing natural light when possible (or what you'd think is natural light), but rocks off-camera flash throughout wedding days and strobes in the studio. In a non-intimidating way, Ashley will teach you how to get into off-camera flash, teach you how to make it look as natural or dramatic as you want, troubleshoot with you so that you know what to do when you're on your own and things aren't going how you are envisioning. Getting Personal: The importance of personal projects in professional development -Sponsored by Millers Professional Imaging
Sponsored by Miller's Professional Imaging

Running a creative business IS HARD. Our ability to pay the bills isn’t just based on the hours we put in, but on the quality of our artistry. By our ability to stay inspired. By our endurance in churning out work that speaks to our audiences and encourages them to write us checks.

And when your livelihood is based on that? It can seem positively ridiculous to suggest picking-up your camera for fun.

But here’s a secret: perpetually engaging in personal work can be what keeps your professional endeavors afloat. Shooting for fun…and let’s face it, essentially putting in volunteer overtime hours…can be the difference between a successful business and one that fails.

Let’s dive in together to talk about the challenges of burnout, the benefits of projects that push your creative boundaries, and how to identify what projects are perfect for you.

Running a creative business IS HARD. But it can also be the joy of a lifetime. Let’s find out how to tap back into what made photography so exhilarating in the first place and keep that at the forefront of what you do behind the camera.
